Wear, Need, Want, Read | Prt 1
A new series inspired by the gift tags I bought for my teens this Christmas; a mindful wish list or perhaps things I'm already enjoying and think you might too.
I’d never come across the concept of ‘wear, need, want, read’ until Ivy & Stitch shared her beautiful embroidered gift tags at the end of last year. I swiftly bought two sets, determined that I’d stick to these categories when buying Hugo and Bruno’s Christmas presents.
While I didn’t manage to limit myself quite so well on the xmas present front - my love language is gift giving - I did love the idea for a series of posts, sharing what I’m wearing (or would love to wear), something I need, something I want and something I’m reading or would love to read. All in the hope of inspiring you too. A mini wish list of lovely or possibly humorous things.
But First, A Little Reminder…
We have our first paid subscriber LIVE Q&A on the 25th January 9am. For more info and how to submit your questions, just pop here…
Wear
I’m already gonna cheat here, as there’s two things that are too good not to share!
First up, is an absolute wish-list dream, it’s been in my thoughts for well over a month as it’s a piece of art. And I’m more than happy to admit the proceeds of selling all my no-longer-bringing-me-joy clothes on (my upcoming) preloved shop and Vinted will be going towards this heirloom piece. I’d always rather 1 used and loved item, than 50 - so that’s the plan!
The second item(s) that I just can’t keep to myself is underwear of the comfiest, softest kind! With my 40th birthday looming at the end of last year and with some knickers older than my children (yes, I have an 18 year old!), I gave myself the gift of having a good sort out of the knicker (and bra) drawer, finally getting rid of anything uncomfortable or falling apart, which was 65% of the contents.
Admittedly, it was a risky choice to go waist deep into an underwear brand I hadn’t tried before - but even I’m susceptible to the pressure of a Black Friday deal. I bought these ‘smooth high leg briefs’ (sz M) in a couple of colours and this ‘smooth padded bra’ in white (sz M, no wire) - on their arrival and try on, you’ve never seen me move so fast to place another order to ensure not a day goes by that my crotch and lady lumps aren’t enveloped in this comfort!
FYI, I always feel more comfortable in a padded bra - otherwise my nips arrive in the room before me, and no one needs that kinda intro on a day-to-day basis.
I’ve worn these everyday for over a month and I don’t regret a second of it! Bonus - you can wear the bra all day, and not want to rip it off come 6pm - what is this comfort magic?!
Need
Ahhh, where to start?! I need to do my tax return (yes, I know, I have 13 days left out of a possible 365. A classic case of ‘don’t give me time, give me a deadline!’.
We need to sort out our wifi! We made the jump from BT (cos ironically getting in touch with them is impossible and they charge through the roof for a standard service) to Trooli, who seemed to be offering everything we could have hoped for. It was too good to be true! Since we switched, our wifi constantly drops out, it’s not strong enough for a zoom call and due to the unstable connection, even the printer won’t print a whole document! In short - don’t move to Trooli!
I promise I’ll endeavor to come up with more exciting things I need next time.
Want
If you’ve been living in a hole for the last few weeks, you might not have seen the kitchen shelves drama - panic not, I documented it for your viewing pleasure HERE.
I have pinched from here and moved from there, to dress the shelves to see if they’d be staying - which we think they now are. And with a trip to Ardingly Antiques fair on Tuesday, I would really want to find the lady (from last time) that had a stash of vintage Polish pottery, to adorn these shelves.
She had bowls (of which I bought 3), plates and platters last time - so fingers crossed. I’ve been using the bowls for my morning porridge and they bring endless joy.
Read
Oh, again I’m losing at my own game again and am gonna have to pick 2!
As I shared in THIS POST I started listening to Katherine May’s, by now infamous, Wintering (yes, I’m a 40 year old, New Year cliche and I’m loving it!). It had been so hugely hyped and I’d been told by numerous people that it was ‘life changing’. I’ll admit, I didn’t feel this affect instantly. But I did find myself being inspired to make small changes during these colder months, without even realising. Like going for a beach sauna with my sister on new years day, going for a cold sea dip mid-January to perk me up, and even planning/booking a trip to Iceland next December! So maybe it has been life changing and I just didn’t realise.
And lastly, as you now know, I’m not a ‘book reader’ per se - I’ve been really enjoying dipping in and out of The Simple Things magazine Issue 151 (Jan 25), which I picked up on my food shop last week. It’s slow, gentle and inspiring on all sorts of fronts - a big recommend from a lover of lovely magazines.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this little dose of inspo on a Saturday morning (or whenever you’re getting to this), let me know your thoughts. Have a wonderful day and stay cosy folks…
